in need of advice.

hi, my name is Carol, I'm 23 years old and I've recently been diagnosed with mild dysplasia.

it was first noticed in my first trimester of my first pregnancy, another pap was done 6 weeks after my sons birth and it was still mild. we followed this up again with a biopsy and colposcopy in july (8months after my sons birth)

now before this, I had never been to this doctor who did the colposcopy. at the exact moment of the procedure, he decided I needed treatment and would have in in a month (8 days from now) but neither me or my family doctor has seen the results from the colposcopy yet.

this very much concerns me, as I've said, this doctor is not my family doctor, nor has he looked into my "lady" history, I know this because he gave me a perscription for a bactrial infection even though I've always had an above average amount of bacteria down there (its just the way Im programed I guess)

I had to actually call this doctors office today and TELL them to fax the results to my family doctor (they've pretty much said theres no reason for him to see them) which to me seems VERY strange.

so as I've said, this clinic has decided I should have the LEEP treatment, without any of my doctors or nurses seeing the results before we do this. I have to drive 2 hours to get to this clinic and they've also decided they'll give me the risks and such the day of the treatment (which seems even MORE strange to me)

can anyone help ease my fears about this place? they just seem to be doing things ass backwards. I've read on many sites, the best treatment for mild dysplasia is a 'watch and wait' because something around 70% clears up on its own in 2 years. any opinions on this?

help!

Get a second opinion from your regular doctor or a clinic you trust. I did the "watch and wait" thing for three years and still ended up having a Leep procedure (two days ago). Put off the Leep for as long as your doctor recommends; it was not a pleasant experience. I was told it wouldn't be any worse than a colposcopy. It was far worse.  The cervical block was the worst part. The first injection had me ready to jump off the table. I think the entire clinic staff heard me yelp in pain. If your doctor offers it, have them put you under.

Since your mild dysplasia did not go away after your sons birth, it is time for the leep procedure. Its better to have it treated then to sit around. You can ask for your report, you have a right to your health information. (at least in Canada you do).

There really is no reason for your family doctor to see the results. He probably wouldn't understand them anyway. General Practitioners do not know to much about dysplasias, etc.

The specialist probably gave you the prescription because after procedures you are more vulnerable to infection because the skin (protective barrier) has been cut.
