ALIMTA or AVASTIN?

My Mother (Stage IV NSCLC) was initially given Carbo/Taxol (I think), then Tarceva.  She was on Tarceva for 7 months, then CT showed slight progression.  Next option is Alimta or Avastin.  Onc tells her those are her options, but doesn't give any info.  I've done alot of research and it seems that Alimta has less severe side effects than Avastin and also appears that it can be given indefinately.  Always better to hear from people that have actually experienced it though, so if anyone can provide insight on these medications, I would greatly appreicate it.

I go thro' the same, start with carbo/taxol and follow by tarceva .

When tarceva not working, been given many options of chemo drug combination, but, most of the oncology I visited suggest for me to use cisplatin + alimta .

meantime, was infomed alimta can also be use alone as maintenance drug.

as for Avastin, it's recommended by oncology to use it together with carbo/taxol  . also been advise that for patient with bleeding is not advisable .

Hi all, my wife has had the works for chemo. A year on two different cocktails. Now on ALIMPTA with less side effects. Only fatigue the third thru the fifth day. Her scans have been no change since she started two years ago. Her onco says he has had some on ALIMPTA for four years, so we take it one day at a time. Have you heard of LDN? She started on it last week. Her GP perscribed it for her.  Good luck to all that are going thru this, our prayers are with you. ron

my mum is moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma stage IV, doagnosed 2 1/2 years ago, she is receiving alimta as 4th line treatment now. We have tried carboplatin/paclitaxol as 1st line, tarceva as 2nd line (which was good for 16months), Iressa as 3rd line, and now alimta. Mum just went 1st cycle last week but feels terrible after it.

I wonder what you said can use alimta indefinitely.... what is the dosage?

thanks

My wife's oncologist said he has had people on Alimta for four years.

My wife has been on it about a year now. Best wishes to you. Ron
