My husband was a viet nam vet and died in 2001 of esophagel cancer. He also had diabetes but the V. A. has turned down my application for benefits many times. I would like to hear from other Viet Nam vets who knows of someone who has had this type of cancer. I would also like to know more about how to re open his case.

I am a Vietnam veteran and was diagnosed with EC had all the treatments and surgery and presently NED. I have filed and was denied then appealed and the DAV let my one year expire without my knowledge and now I have submitted new and material evidence to reopen the claim. I have the VVA representing me and highly recommed them to you. I would also go to www.vawatchdog.org and write to Jim Strictland, a veteran advocate who has helped numerous vets and widows obtain their earned benefits. Please post how you make out. Phil A. Thank you for the information. I have contacted our local va hospital for his records and Chicago for all of his service records. The DV at our local hospital told me to forget it. I let his case expire because of 2 turn downs, but want to open it back up. I have not had any help from any one here. They just tell me that I am not quilified for benifits and stop wasting their time. He also had numerous skin disorders and diabetes too. Maybe if I can hang in there I will get some where.

They told you to stop wasting their time. Please contact the National Headquarters of the organization that stated this and give them this persons name and then contact your Congressman/Women and your Senators immediately. I would not take no for an answere until you have exhausted all your options by congressional people. Please post your findings and contact Jim Strictland at www.vawatchdog.org immediately. Phil A.
