I did suffer some hearing loss and had a ringing sensation during treatments.  This was only temporary condition as things cleared up after I finished treatments. I've never heard of anyone suffering permanent damage, however.

Yes.  Had 30 RT to right ear for parotid gland cancer.  also had menierre's disease before that. Now significant loss and ringing all of the time in the right ear. I also had pretty severe radiation burns in the neck area and also on the skin inside the ear canal.  It has been tough dealing with this.  I am an educator and have always been able to hear even whispers from my students!  Now, have a lot of trouble filtering out "noise" to focus on what is said.  If someone whispers to right side, can't hear a thing!  Also have the congested, full, muffled sensation that many have mentioned.

I want the hearing aids... just can't get them until ear clears up. and ready for that to happen since I am 5 months out of treatment!

Good luck!

my brother was diagnosed with stage iv tonsil cancer with 2 lymph nodes affected   hpv16 type   he started chemo on oct 26 and radiation the next day  decided against the surgery and is scheduled for  Cisplatin x 3 with concurrent IMRT x 35, (50 Gy)

the main problem right now is that it is affecting his hearing  which he has now been told is irreversable
