Stage 2 B

Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 2 B. I am waiting for the results from my PET and CT scan to see if it has spread, they say there is a large chance it is in my lymph nodes.. I will be doing 6 weeks of radation with one day a week chemo, then an internal radation where i will be in the hospital a few days. From there they say they will check to see if the tumor has shrunk at all to determine further treatment, although eventually i will have to get a hysterectomy. I have already had a surgery to which moved my ovaries up higher so they were out of the field of radation as i am only 24 and would like the opportunity to have a children even if through surrogacy. I understand that to get this type of cancer if to get any at all is somewhat lucky as it does have a very high survival rate. And this seems to be what my friends and family are looking at. What i wish they would understand is that no matter what it is cancer, and i am personally scared to death, even with an 80% chance of full recovery. I am glad to have found this website. If you have gone through this type of treatment and have any hints or just an insight to what it is i will be going through it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there.  I had Stage 1b cervical cancer in 2006, had a radical hysterectomy.  They removed my ovaries also.  I had positive lymph nodes which they removed also.  I had 6 weeks of radiation and one day a week chemo.  Two years later this August, my cancer recurred.  They found a tumor near my rectum.  They removed the tumor and then found two more tumors.  I just finished with 4 months of chemo.  I am in remission.  You will get through this.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  I don't plan on going anywhere for a very long time.  My cancer is treatable, just not curable.  Especially since mine came back.

Hello Karen, Thank you for your response. If you do not mind my asking, I was wondering what going through treatment was like?.. Are there any side effects you are still dealing with? Thank you so much for the encouragment, and willing to talk.

Radiation two years ago was horrible.  After the 2nd week I started having really bad diarhea.. going around 12 times a day... not making it to the toilet a lot... the chemo was only once a week.  I didn't loose any hair.  This send time having chemo for 4 months was bad... did a lot of throwing up but everyone is different.. .you may not get sick.  Chemo was once every three weeks.. I had carbo and taxol.  They finally gave me some medicine to stop the throwing up.. my acid reflux acted up so that didn't help.  It took about a good two months to get the chemo out of my system where I feel GREAT!  I have a lot of energy. i go to the gym at least 4 or 5 days a week.  also from the radiation, my spine doctor thinks I have this pinched nerve from all of the radiation I had.  Who knows.. but the exercising helps the pinched nerve.  the pain radiates down my left leg.  Let me know if you have more questions.  I was where you are right  now.. I thought for sure I would not be on this earth very long.  See also if you have a Wellness community near your home.  It is a support group.  I go twice a month we meet and the woman in my support group all have ovarian cancer and they are still alive... some of them have continuous chemo and they are doing just fine.  Karen..
