My boyfriend c19 was 1693 a year ago,now he was taking gemzar and tarceva for four months, his marker went down to 19,but last week his marker went up to 40.Now the doctor said it's not working because the number is going up,and there is nothing else they can give him. They told him to try clinical trials. He's tryed three typs of chemo,c19 went up then went down, went up then went down.I think the doctors don't know what there doing, people are just ginnypigs.

The Gemzar and Tarceva didn't work for me either.  My Doctor then started me on 5FU and leukovarin and it slowed the growth of the tumors.  Something to consider.

As for the cancer markers, my doctor doesn't mention them unless I ask. But at one point mine was in the 6000 range and after the 5FU treatments it was down to about 400.

If your doctor is not willing to try something else I would suggest you see another oncologist.

My boyfriend's was as high as 10,000.  It started at 12000, then down to 4200 and then back up.  I think they look for trends and the actual number.
