They have found a 10 cm tumor INSIDE my mothers kidney and have said they are 90% sure it is cancer. The CT scans have showed that it has not spread and I am am still very scared. She has to have her kidney removed in Monday and is in a lot of pain and fear. i just need to know if ne1 has been through something similar and can talk about it. I dont want to lose her.

If it hasen't spread then the prognosis is generally good. You need to know what grade/stage etc the cancer is. If it is confined and is stage 1. Then removal of the kidney should hopefully remove the problem. About 18 months ago I was diagnosed with Stage 3b-grade 3. The cancer had spread and there were nodules on my lungs. I had my right kidney removed at Mayo in Rochester and have since been on Sutent. After 18 months the cancer has not spread-so far so good. Good luck.

hello,

i was diagnosed with rcc on Feb 2007 , my right kidney was removed and the left kidney about 20% leaving 80%. There was no metastasis and was taking Sutent for a year. I am not on dialysis, the 80 % was working well but you have to watch your food especially sodioum and fats. I t has been been 2 years and a half and my quality of life is normal except the incision that to date it is still itching and your stomach is stiff. I have gone about 4 MRI but the result is good.

My sure to talk to your oncologist after the surgery. By the way i am 57 years old. Don't worry, with the advent of the new medicine and state of the art technologies it can be detected.

Remember, ALWAYS go for a second opinion, don't rely on the first.

Hi

I had my kidney removed at the end of January if your mother has a choice if it is done using the keyhole method there will only be 4 or 5 small incisions. I had to have an open nephrectomy so have a 7" scar.

My cancer has spread to the lungs and bone and was diagnosed in December 2007 but I am living a normal life but have to go for regular CT scans. It sounds as if your mother has been fortunate in the tumour has been found before it has spread and once the kidney is removed her outlook should be good.

Hi, I had right kidney removed by Laparoscopic means; one two-three inch hole near my belly button and three small holes for the TV probes in Feb of this year. The cancer was contained within the kidney, thus no meds or radiation for me. I was in the hospital two nights and my recovering was very rapid. I was on a morphine button the first day and Norco (a vicodin type product) for the next week to ten days. I slept on a recliner at the hospital the second night, it was too hard to get up from the bed. The pain was like I had done way too many sit ups. Keep in mind, that I am 71 years old.
