Hi, I have had occasional bouts of "Whipple pain" since having surgery in 2002. I don't have them as often now as I did at first. The pain can be intense, and usually I will have a low grade fever (usually not more than 101) the following day. No one that I have read about knows exactly what causes this. I read on another board that one persons doctor told them they thought it may they were having very light cases of pancreatitis.
I learned my episodes happened mostly when I over exerted myself. I needed to limit the amount of time I spend bending at the waist, like I do when gardening.
Hope you can find the source of your problem soon.

Hello Everybody,
I had the whipple on 7/31/2007 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City by Dr. Myron Schwartz (a noted whipple surgeon and also liver transplants). I had a normal recovery and am taking Viokase 8 enzyme. After the 1st year I began having night sweats and about once a month a lowgrade fever. After Easter 2009 the pains started and are continuous which I can control (with the recommendation of the oncologist) with Advil every 8 hours and if more severe add one Tylenol. I had all possible tests and bloodwork and no cancer recurrence was found, thank God! Last week I had another attack with much stronger pain and 102 fever. Again the bloodwork did not show any infection. The doctors cannot diagnose the pains and the fevers, it seems a big mystery. Has anyone else experienced this? I would like to know, thanks.
