Periwinkle,
Your surgeon and/or an oncologist at the hospital should have discussed the reports with you. It usually takes about a week from surgery to get all of the results. If they knew how many lymph nodes were affected, they should also know if the tumor had clear margins, what size it was, and if it spread to any other organs, etc. This is part of the staging process. You should call if you don't know this information.
Two oncologists need to be selected...a medical one for the chemo and a radiation oncologist. You need to meet with both before beginning treatment. My husband had his Whipple April 29. He had clear margins and only one nearby lymph node involved. His tumor was 1.3 cm. He is following up with chemo (Gemzar once a week for three weeks), a week off, now on radiation five days a week for five weeks along with a 5FU pump which he wears for 5 days a week (weekends off) and once a week oxaliplatin (chemo) at the oncologists office. This is called adjuvant therapy and they hope it'll prevent a recurrence. So far he hasn't had many side effects except fatigue. He eats what he wants, exercises, etc.
If you would like any further info, please e-mail me or write again on this board. Good luck and God bless, Nancy
