Cord blood can be used for stem cells for use in stem cell transplants. SCT are sometimes, but not always used in leukemia patients. What type of leukemia does she have? There are other sources for stem cells including her siblings, herself and matched donors. I'd say its a little early to be worried about that. She may not even need a SCT if her chemo goes well.
