My biggest advice is, check with your doctor. You can certainly listen to any suggestions, but your doctor knows best.
When I was diagnosed with Stage IV, the docs and nutritionist told me not to change my diet because I was healthy and my blood was good. I was obviously eating whatever my body needed to keep me healthy. They told me, the problem is, so many patients change their diets, and then they don't know if the side effects are caused by the treatment or the diet change. I did listen to them, however I did cut out drinking Coca Cola - my drink of choice. Turns out, the docs were right. I had nausea and none of the drugs seemed to combat it. Well they finally suggested I drink Coca Cola - that did the trick.
Also, after my liver surgery, it was important that I eat as much meat as possible to help my liver regenerate. It has grown back 95% and looks almost the same as it did when I first showed up. In the hospital I had eggs, bacon and sausage for breakfast. Burgers for lunch and steak for supper. Found out I wasn't eating enough fat, the docs were going to inject me with fat until the nurses interjected and said-let me have some fun eating. So the medical staff bought me a Chocolate cake. I was also given oddles of butter with my bread. I asked my doctors if they were worried about my cholesterol (which has remained low) they said they'd worry about that after they were done worrying about my cancer.
All this, when I was in the heart ward, because I have a heart murmur. They were kind enough for the heart patients that I had my own room. I could tell I was already unpopular from the food that was going into my room. Although I love salad and thought about trading my steak one night for their salad. But I would have felt awful if they would have had a heart attack.
So feel free to ask people hear what they did, but make sure you tell your doctor that you are changing your diet plan.
