Advice/Support?

My Mom was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Squamous cell lung cancer that has metastisized to her adrenal glands.  This past week her medical oncologis told her she had 3-10 monts to live based upon statistics and his experience in dealing with her type of cancer.  Besides being on oxygen, she is doing quite well. She is going to be going through radiation to shrik the tumor so she has a better quality of the life she has left and then she has the option to do chemo.

The oncology radiologist told my Mom when she met her that she was surprised to see such a vital woman sitting before her.  She could not believe that after looking at her medical records that my Mom was doing as well as she was.  My heart is so broken and I am having a hard time believing she may not be with us for much longer.  My Mom is the most courageous woman I know and I do not want her spirit to get broken.  We are going to Stanford for a 2nd opinion.  I am looking for advice, support based upon experience.  Is there anything more I should be doing?

 Thank You!

I just saw your post about your mother as I posted my first about my father. Since it has been a month, how have things progressed?

We are wanting my father to come to where we live for a second opinion.

His is the same as your mother's except that it has mastecized to his brain.  We meet with the oncologist Friday to see where we go from here since he has finished his radiation. However, it does not look good.

Thanks for the reply.  Taking My Mom to Stanford was the best thing I could have done.  Many people advised that I take her to a place that specializes in cancer. I do not know where you live, but but you can look at the following site to see if there is a good hospital close to you and your Father. health.usnews.com/health/best.../cancer-hospital-rankings.

She just started Chemo on Monday and she is doing pretty well.  The Doctors at Stanford think that they will be able to extend her previous given life expectancy.

I pray you find more answers for your Father and do not give up hope!  It is all we have got...
