How many times?

I was diagnosed with stage iiiC ovarian cancer in 2001 with a reoccurance in 2007. They tell me that it will come back and I just recently realized that I would like to know how often you can get cancer? Is it 3 strikes and you are out or can I get it 5 times or more?

Anyone have any information on this? I just hit the 2 year mark. I am making the most of my life, doing what I like most. But would probably be good to know if I should do more.

I would say that you are very lucky that you have not had more reoccurances.  I don't think there is a magic number as to how many times the cancer comes back.  I think perhaps the cancer cells are always there and when they begin to grow back it is called "reoccurance."  I have been told that my cancer can't be cured - OC turned to Peritoneal cancer - but it can be contained.  How long?  They won't say, but I think as long as my body can take chemo, is how long I will live.  I'm on carbo/gemzar and it seems to be keeping the cancer down, but I'm afraid to go off the chemo for any length of time as it would probably spread and be uncontrollable.  Good luck with keeping the beast down.

Forgot to mention, I hope you are being checked regularly and that your CA125 remains down.

I also have iiic ovarian.  I was diagnosied in 1999.  My first remission was 2 years, my second was 2.50 years, then 9 months.  I've been on chemo with a few short breaks for the past 4 or 5 years.  I've had 12 rounds of chemo and every one has worked for me, at least for awhile.

I just finished 6 weeks of radiation therapy which got rid of 4 tumors in 3 different areas of my stomach.  I didn't realize I could take radiation with ovarian cancer. The technology is amazing. My radiation oncologist told me I should have a good remission and I can have radiation over and over again. Don't give up hope - you just never know what technology can do.

I keep thinking someone is going to wake me up and tell me it's a dream.  It seems to easy. I went every weekday and had a small dose.  I've been tired for the past two weeks and have no appetite.  I'm hoping I can do radiation and never have chemo again.

Hello,

I was diagnosed with Fallopian Tube Cancer (basically treated as OVCA )in May of 2002.  I had 8 rounds of taxol/carbo and was in remission for 2 year then 6 rounds of Carbo/taxatere - came back a year later - then did 6 months of Gemzar/cisplatin and now my CA is very high again:(   My Ca is up over 400 ... and I am researching to see what has been successful with other OVCA gals.  So don't go giving away your vaulables yet:)   They keep coming out with more and more options.   Don't worry!  Yea - chemo is no fun - I hate the thought of starting back up again. But I feel hopeful that we have lots of options these days!

Can't the radiation cause burns in the body's tissue?
