Prolonged Vomiting

My husband finished his first 4 cycles of chemo (Revlimid, Velcade and Decadron - along with Dex) in March and has had prolonged vomiting.  He has had gastritis, pancreatitis, pulmonary embolisms, kidney stones, gall bladder removal (only working 3%) and blood clots in his legs since April but is still vomiting and none of the doctors he has seen know why.  Any of this sound familiar?

I had a months long battle with prolonged vomiting which no anti-emetic could stop until I was put on Ondans (generic Zofran).  I lost 30 lbs in two months and I was only 130 to start.  I finally gave up on that doctor and because it was time to have my chemo port "flushed", I mentioned it to the oncology nurses.  I was set for an immediate CT scan and they discovered my cancer had metastasized to my spine.  The Arimidex I had been on had stopped working or the cancer overcame it.

I hope this is not your husband's reason for the vomiting and sometimes it takes a combination of pills to get a handle on what's causing the vomiting, but it's something to check when nothing else is found, if it's not been done yet.  I didn't think the cancer could return while I was still on treatments, but it did.  I do hope they find a different reason and a way to stop the vomiting as he certainly has enough other problems to battle.

I had nauseas and limited vomiting and still am dealing with it but I only had radiation. I have a touchy stomach also. Remember chemo and radiation stay in the body even when the treatment is over. I personally took Ioderal to remove the radiation continuing effects. The Generic Zofran made me really ill and only the real works for me. At $800 for 20 pills bit of a joke with no coverage willing to pay for it.  I cannot say what I took (one can find it on every street corner) but believe me it is known to cancer patients everywhere and not only controls pain but is a miracle for anti nausea and vomiting.

You husband needs to move around, get the blood flowing, and while he probably can hardly keep anything down look at some Aloe vera, digestive enzymes etc. Another thing is chia seeds. Take a teaspoon of chia seeds, chew while sipping juice or water, if that helps do 2-3 times a day. Removes toxins and helps settle the stomach. The symtoms you mention are often associated with this disease. Remember NO fat, and light easy diet as he has had his gallbladder removed. Me too, 10 days before treatment and I know this is a major problem. The liver shuts down due to the stress and toxins. I only hope you can find something to help. Ask your friends. MMS

From Anna,

Hi karenjo, Sorry no.  Dad hasn't had this.  What are the doctors saying?  I know you said they didn't know why?  They must have some idea though.  Has he dyehydrated yet?  Poor guy.

Your friend,

Anna
