Sutent and AMG 386 Phase II Trial

Hi,

Just wanted to see if anyone else was on the Phase II trial of combining Sutent (sunittinib) and AMG 386.

I have Stage IV metastatic cancer that has spread to my lungs and lymph nodes.  I have been on the trail for just over 13 weeks.  My first scan at the 12 week marker showed a total tumor shrinkage of 34.4%.

Any one else out there?

Hello, my Mom was just diagnosied with Stage !V cancer.  She had kidney cancer (kidney removed in 2003).  Came back in lung, surgery in June, found tumor on small intestine, surgery in July.  Was supposed to start radiation at lung site, but CAT scan showed 5 new nodules in lung area.  Yesterday onocologist said that she is Stage !V terminal, a particularly virulent form that seems to be spreading rapidly.  He is having full body CAT and PET scans next week and going to start her on Sutent, twice a day, said that life expectancy would be 10 months.  My question is how is the combo of Sutent and AMG386 working for you?  Any suggestions on nutrition or anything else we should be exploring?  Anyone with info I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.  Thanks

WomanonFire,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your mother. I feel your pain and know first hand how she and your family must feel.

Secondly, I have a problem with an oncologist that would pass such a statement on to your family about her time remaining.  I personally would find a new oncologist that would not make such a statement. You and your family have to remember that no one can play god and tell you that you are going to die.  You need someone on your team that believes in your survival and will give it a 100% in doing so.

That being said...

Sutent and AMG 386 is working well for me.  As I mentioned, my first session showed a 34.4% tumor shrinkage. I do have all the normal symptoms as of the Sutent...loss of taste buds, very sore feet and high blood pressure.  These symptoms last about 3 out of the 4 weeks I am on the Sutent.  However, on the two week break from the Sutent all my symptoms clear in about 6 days.

In reference to the nutrition, I take 3 cap full’s a day of SeaAloe, drink Alkaline, Ionized Water and avoid as much sugar as possible.

In closing, please note that I am also a stage IV kidney cancer patient. I have had my left kidney removed and the disease has spread to my lungs and lymph nodes. I have been diagnosed for a year and two months now.  Not once, has my oncologist mentioned the word death to me. He knows I have the desire to live and he will support that till the end.  He is one of the most recognized doctors in this field and I trust him 100%. If it wasn’t for the scan and doctors telling me I have cancer, I would never believe it myself.  I feel wonderful and believe that I have many more years with my family.

Hope this helps.  Feel free to post any further questions you may have.

Chris

Thank you Chris for your kind thoughts and quick response to my questions.  This is a confusing time for all my family and we are all diligently trying to educated ourselves on what my Mother's best course of treatment plan should be.  I agree with you, I feel the Dr. was wrong to give her such a grim prognosis esp since I've been reading up on case studies where patients did survive for 2 years or more.  I am trying to find out more about stem cell transplants and have been in contact today with Cancer Treatment Centers of America as they seem to be doing inovative types of treatment, and treating the whole body with vitamins, naturalpathic methods to help support the immune systems.  How do you go about finding onocologists that deal specifically with migrating renal cell cancer?  I think she definitely needs a second opinion.

Thanks again for taking your time to answer my questions.  I hope the very best for you with your treatment plan and many years to come for you to enjoy with your family and friends.

Viki

Hi Mike!

In answer to your questions...

No, this is not my first treatment towards the cancer.  My initial treatment was IL2 (Interlukin 2) which was not successful.  After this, I was offered the opportunity to enter the AMG386 and Sutent trail. I had not taken any Sutent prior to this trial. As I reported, I had a 34.4% tumor shrinkage since I have started the trial and no additional spread. I just completed my third (4 weeks on Sutent) and now on my two week break. I will continue to take my AMG386 IV treatment while on my Sutent break.

Yes, this water I drink is Kangen water.  I was fortunate enough to have a breast cancer survivor living next door to me that had one of the machines.  From what i learned from her and looking online, I do believe that keeping your bodies PH level balanced helps in the fight against this cancer.

Hope this answered your questions accurately.  Please feel free to reply back should you have any additional questions come up.

Stay positive and I will add you to my nightly prayer list.

Chris

Mike,

AMG is not a pill.  It is enjected by IV once a week.  I never stop taking the AMG even on my two week break from Sutent.

Yes, I do recieve my CT scans ever 12 weeks ( 3 months).

You are correct, I am drinking the 9.5 Kagen water on a daily basis.

It is nice to visit with others fighting the same battle. It helps the mind deal with it all.

Good luck and stay in touch.

Hello All: My name is Bob61.  Diagnosed with stage 4 RCC in June 1998, at age 49.  Right kidney and adrenal gland taken out in July '98.  Two brain mets taken out in four operations, last of which was May '2000.  Several good years until June 2004 when cancer went to left adrenal gland which was surgically removed.  Then good until December '06 when two (slow-growing) nodes appeared in lungs.  Doc said I could go on sutent or wait awhile and see if nodes started to grow faster or if anything else showed up.  Stayed lucky until 12/'08 when nodes stated to grow faster and a liver tumor joined party.  Started Phase I sutent and AMG-386 in February 09.  Stared cycle 7 yesterday, dropped dosage from 50 mg to 37.5 after third cycle.  Had 37% shinkage in lung tumors and minor shrinkage in liver tumor after 2 cycles, stable since then.  Next scan in four to six weeks.  AMG -386 seems mild.  Sutent is tough--blood pressure, taste buds, fatigue, platalet count.  I'm pretty sure it blew out my thyroid.  Jeez.  Still go to work everyday.  Play golf on weekends.  Stay alive.  Good stuff coming, fewer side effects--AV-951 (tivozanib),tallactoferrin, axitibnib, combinations etc.  Chris,  all your advice and observations are spot-on.  Bob, now 61 with two grandkids.
