Hi. Friend is newly diagnosed with kidney cancer and was told it is also in lymph nodes around kidney. Pathology not back so type isn't known yet.

Does anyone know the protocol for this by chance?

First thing to do is try and relax--The "C" word is not fun but at this time not a death sentence. Has the kidney been removed?? I assume it was with the pathology on the way. There are alot of treatments available--alot depends on how physically strong your friend is and what path they want to take. There is IL2, Sutent, Nexavar, Affinitor, Avastin, axitinib in trials and more on the way. I have been fighting this so far with IL2 for about a year--not a fun treatment but a chance at a "cure". I will be more than happy to answer the questions I can as they come up. Stay strong and beleive in your friend.

Thank you for replying. Yes, kidney and suspicious lymph nodes were removed. Path should be back next week. Our friend is in his 50's, great shape... was training for a triathalon. He assumed he had more kidney stones when he had the blood in the urine. So did his doctor. He didn't have pain. My husband is a brain tumor survivor (like Kennedy's) of 27 months. He has been on Avastin for 20 months. 18.5 of those with Irrotecan (CPT-22). Mike, I believe, will have a great attitude and Tim will be there with him for support. He has seen how well Tim has and is doing through his dreadful diagnosis. Attitude and faith...
