severe abnormal smear the clear colposcopy? Help

I am 33 yrs old, Have had the hpv virus (ten years ago), using oral contraceptives for 15 years. No children but would like some.

2 months ago I had a smear come back as severe abnormality. Had a colposcopy that revealed no abnormality at all (iodine and acidity I think). The doctor has refereed me to have a cone biopsy (I opted to have it under GA).  I have since had another smear privately and should get the results in a week.

I have no idea when the surgery is scheduled for but the pre op assessment is not for 3 weeks.  I have a holiday booked that includes 8 non refundable flights in less than 2 months time. (I read recovery can be 4-8 weeks?)

I have looked into getting it done privately which will cost about £1600! Which would mean getting a loan out? My concern is that if I have severely abnormal cells only in the upper part of my cervix. They maybe close to other organs and therefore if the did change to cancer I could be in a very bad situation. This seems a very rare situation as I can not find any information about my situation.

Has anyone heard of this or can advise?

Hey hun,

You don't need to worry about other organs at the stage you are at. The cervix is only a couple inches long, So no one part is closer to an organ. If nothing showed up in your coloposcopy, they may need to check higher up in the canal. It takes a while before abnormalities turn into invasive cancer. As long as you get your abnormality treated you should be fine. Most people who end up with cervical cancer are the ones who don't take care of themselves, or don't get their paptest regularly.
