Hi all,
I am happy to have found this board, as a diagnosis of sarcoma is extremely frightening.
My mother was diagnosed on 11/22/05 with sarcoma, specifically malignant fibrous histiocytoma. The primary site of her cancer is on a posterior muscle in her neck on the right side.
The protocol so far has been two separate 72-hour rounds of chemotherapy in hopes of shrinking the tumor. Hopefully, since her cancer is high grade and fast-growing, the chemo will do its thing and shrink the tumor.
After the chemo, there will be an MRI (January 11th) to determine tumor size, and then she will meet with a neck surgeon on January 16th to discuss surgical options. I'm sure there will be radiotherapy to follow to enusre clean margins.
Has anyone else been diagnosed with MFH in a site other than extremities. We are aware of how rare the neck as a primary site is, but wondered if by chance there might be others fighting the same fight.
Thanks for listening,
Lisa
