Wedge Pillow for EC

Hi everyone.   I haven't posted in awhile because I've been doing some traveling during these past 4 weeks (5 day cruise with my husband Joe and this past week went to Denver with my sister).

I wanted to let everyone know that I ordered a wedge pillow for my husband and he started using it about one week ago.  The pillow has been  a big help with his acid reflux.  He now wakes up most mornings with little or no acid reflux and is able to enjoy his breakfast.  In fact, while I was away, he gained a few more pounds and is now 142 lbs. (this is thin for a man of 6 ft.; however, he has been really active this past summer and is burning off calories so I'm not complaining).

I don't know why we waited so long to get this wedge pillow.  I think Joe thought he could just sleep on a stack of pillows but most times he would be down to one pillow by morning.

Our little yorkie loves the new pillow too.  The pillow is on our bed and she climbs on it and is able to get a better view out of the window so she can defend her territory.

I ordered my husband's pillow from Amazon.com.  It was $19.40 and with postage came to $32.50 and was not returnable.  The website has 81 comments on this pillow, many from people having acid reflux and/or esophagus cancer.  When it arrived a week ago, it did have an odor but that is almost gone and my husband never minded it.  I was concerned that he wouldn't like the height (12"x24"x24") but he has no problem sleeping on it.

Maria, it will be the best investment for you husband. I slept on a wedge pillow since 1977 and stopped using it this year and went to an electric bed instead which was covered by my insurance. I had reflux in 1977 and a Primary Care Doctor who was a gastroenterologist that never scoped me once, for if he had maybe I would never had developed EC. If you go on vacations by vehicle bring that wedge along it will become his best friend. I wish him the best of health. Phil A.

Bringing the wedges along is a definite positive for travelling by car. They really help on the road with all the other weird things going on too. Pat eats at stranger hours, and eats restaurant food which is generally harder on the system when we travel. We've also found ourselves in the local grocery stores late at night hunting for apples to take back to our room. We've been wanting to drive the Northern California coast but I hesitate to book a trip where we can't haul our wedges along. We've also built up pillows to accomodate for not having the wedge, but it never works very well and he ends up with a rotten stomach after a couple nights.

I would be lost with out my wedge. I was glad someone here suggested it to me and I use the 12" with 2 pillows ontop of it and have little problems other then I do tend to slide down even with a pillow under my legs, but I just pull myself back up and I am good to go. I wish I had known about bed, bath and beyond prior to my purchase as I bought it at a medical supply store and paid like $52.00 Canadian, at least if I need a new one I now know where to go.

Thanks everyone for your comments.   We will definitely take the wedge pillow with us wherever we go.   My husband had surgery in March 2008 and I don't know why we waited so long.   He used to start out most morning so nauseous and now when he wakes up, he's much happier with little or no acid reflux.

Hi all, I've been reading for a while, but this is my first post.  I'm two and a half years out from treatment and surgery (Pull-up.) So far so good.  Sleep has been a hassle.  For the first year and a half I went back and forth from the wedge, (24 x 24 x 12 high)  to a stack of continuingly shifting pillows.  I wake up 10 to 15 times a night to re-situate my torso and make my neck comfortable.

I know that there are survivors of EC that sleep in a lounge chair...not for me.

I'd like to work with other EC survivors to design a wedge that really works well.  I'll go out on a limb here and put my phone #
