Im very confused about some mixed results that we have been getting about my father. it seems like the free light urine test is showing much more information than the free light serum. For instance when he started treatment his shows his Free kappa urine was 518 almost 20 times that of the acceptable 24 but has come down, with treatment to 51. On the other hand, his free kappa blood was 37 (double the acceptable range of 19) and has remaind pretty much between 30 - and 40 the whole time. He has had two doctors, one that says only yo pay attention to the urine . . . the other says only to pay attention to the serum, so I'm tottally confused. Is there a type of myloma that will show only with a free light chain urine, and not in a free light chain serum?

This interview may answer some questions.  Dr. Tricot is a well published Myeloma specialist.  SInce he's a Phd, he has conducted a great deal of research.  I trust his opinion...after all, he's my doctor  ;-)

I hope it helps
