I read your post and previous ones too and am very sorry to hear about your grandpa. My mother was dx with stage iv too in April. The cancer had already spread to many of her lymph nodes. She chose to have a stent instead of feeding tub, but the stent caused her excruciating pain. I pushed her doctor to give her radiation and then chemo (taxol only). I asked her doctor what dosage she is receiving and was told palliative not aimed for cure, but to prolong life. After only one round of chemo, her PET scan showed excellent response to chemo. Her esophageal tumor shrunk significantly (partially due to radiation and partially due to chemo), her lymph nodes in her neck and under her arm had resolved, and others significantly decreased FDK uptake (due to chemo). Reduced dosage is better than nothing, and it did miracle to my mom. She just finished two rounds and will continue chemo (not sure for how long). Overall she tolerated well with minimal vomitting with the help of anti-nausous meds. Her appetite increased.
So check with your grandpa's doctor to see if they can resume chemo at reduced dosage. Please continue to pray for your grandpa and cherish every day you have with him. God is a great doctor. In Him, nothing is impossible. Never give up hope. I will pray for your family and your grandpa.
