Your dad may be refusing treatment because he thinks nothing can be done.  What stage is his rectal cancer in?  My brother, 58, with daughters 15 and 12 was initially in shock at his stage iv diagnosis and didn't know where to turn. His tumor was inoperable and he had metastasis to his liver.  After 8 rounds of chemo, they were able to operate.

If your dad can't afford treatment or doesn't have insurance, you might call the Health and Human Services in your state or county.  Also, cancer treatment centers have social workers who can give you ideas about financial matters.  Your dad's general practitioner should be able to give you some guidance.

Tell your dad there is hope and that he should at least get some information before he makes a decision that is so final.  Colorectal cancer treatment has made great strides in the last 8 years or so.

My dad has stage 4 colon cancer....he has been using chemo for a year and a half. At first it worked. Then the tumors were growing back...I could tell that my Dad seem to be giving up with tumors growing...I prayed for wisdom and did alot of research on the internet.  With-in the last month he started taking bitter apricot seeds, vitamin zinc, pineapple....now the tumors are going down....  people are using different things that work for them.
