Hope for Colon Cancer Stage 4

This is the first time I am leaving a message on this site, however, I have read your messages every day for the past 6 months.  My brother, age 48, in perfect health was diagnosed 6 months ago with Colon cancer Stage 4 with mets to both lobes of his liver.  He was not a candidate for liver resection.  He was devestated to say the least, as was all of his family.  He has a wife and 2 young children.

After receiving chemo for the past 5 months, Folfox V (with 3-day pump infusion) with Avastin, he received his first pet scan .  He was terrorized to get the results.  The oncologist told him that his pet scan was excellent; there were no lesions in the liver.  We are all thrilled!  He will continue with oral chemo and Avastin.

I spent all of my free time searching the net for some hope and progress for victims of Colon cancer.  I wanted to save my little brother.  Do yourself a favor, stay on this site, because I always found it truthful and optimistic, but stay off the other sites.  You are looking for a cure and most of the information you will find is outdated.  Stop looking at statistics.  They are outdated.  It will frustrate you.  Have faith in God.  I never prayed so much in all of my life.   Have faith in your oncologist.  Make sure you have a good support system, your spouse, your siblings, anyone you can talk to about anything.

You can send me a message at any time and I will answer you.  I am a cancer survivor (10 years).

God bless you.

Thanks for your positive message.  My husband is 49, has stage IV colon cancer with liver mets.  We've only just started the fight about a month ago.  It gives us much hope to hear stories like yours.  God bless you and your family.

My sister is in a similar boat. She is 54 with stage IV colon cancer and has a 3 and 4-year old she and her husband adopted from Russia before she got the news. She went through chemo (folfox) and it didn't work. After that she had colon cancer removed from her ovary - ovary taken out too. Her current PET shows activity in the uterine and ovarian areas, so we are looking into alternative clinics. We don't want any further toxic treatments. Burzinski, Sanoviv, Oasis of Hope, Envita, are some that we are looking into. If you have heard of any folks going to any of these, I'd love their feedback. God is good - all the time!! ~ jan

Thank you for your message of hope and I am glad that your brother is doing well.  My sister, age 43 was just diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with met 8 in the liver.  She has undergone her colon resection and is now preparing for chemo with avastin.  I find myself desperately searching for some form of alternative treatment that would not have such harsh side effects.  You hear these stories of clinics in other countries that are having great results using natural therapies.  Does anyone out there have any comments, suggestions or advice regarding holistic medicine or clinics.  As you all know I am in great despair and looking to educate myself as fast as I can.

Thank you in advance

Sherry

Dear Jan,

I have found a site called cancertutor.com that has a lot of information as well as the independent cancer research foundation that has a lot of information about holistic medicine.  If I learn anything new I will pass it on.  I will also research the clinics you mentioned.

Thank you,

Sherry

Hi Sherry,

I'm sorry that your sister and her family is going through this horrible time.  Give the chemo and Avastin a chance.  My brother worked full time while undergoing this treatment.  The side effects from this type of chemo aren't that bad.  He got a little tired after his treatment and his hands were a little tingly and he was sensitive to cold.  He did not get nauseas.  They've improved the side effects alot since I received it 10 years ago.  He did not lose his hair either.

I'll pray for your sister and you.  Take one day at a time.  The best place for treatment is in the United States.  Your sister can talk to her oncologist for other options if she is against chemo.

Maria

Hi Jan,

My partner was diagnosed 3 years ago with stage IV colon cancer with mets in both lobes of the liver.

We attended the Issels centre in the Oasis of Hope last year and he came back worse than he went. The treatment is a joke and I would not recommend it to anyone.

We are currently attending a clinic in Germany and we are so much more impressed with the treatment there.
