peyz33 , as i understand it  Carac has the same active ingrediant , but at a lower concentration .

it's day 12 , resumed  twice daily routine  yesterday . headache and and a hot feeling resumed as well . scabby , red areas now  cover. most of my scalp and  3  aditional areas " dime sized spots"  on face and collar bone

Good Lord - I can't even imagine it being stronger - I couldn't tolerate the pain - good luck.  I had a lung removed and real chemo for 4 months and that wasn't as bad as the Carac for 12 days.  Yikes....

My doctor tells me to use it once a day for 28 days to reduce irritation and possible side effects.

It seems to work although I have just done a small area with a mixture of twice and once as I get impatient. It didn't seem any different.

With only a few days to go, if it was me I wouldn't change my dose.

thanks  for the follow up ....

i  now believe everybody reacts differently and or has a greater or lesser amount of skin damage to begin with . i've resumed the twice  daily routine and will hold out for the 30 days . i do not  have a doctor , but live in  a country were  the cream  is an over the counter product .

  again thanks

Hi Artichoke,

Do you mean 30 days at twice a day?

I agree that everyone seems to have different reactions and different degrees of condition.

Most people seem to do 28 applications either at 2 or 1 a day. In the UK different hospitals hand out leaflets saying 1 or 2,  it seems to depend on the consultant who runs the department.

From what I've read you'd only do 30 days at twice a day for a more severe condition. I had Bowens Disease which is a squamous cell carcinoma trapped in the upper layer of skin and my doctor strongly recommended a graft although I have read many people use Efudix with a more prolonged treatment for that.

I've done a website about my scalp treatment with 2 grafts, cryotherapy, curettage and now efudix if it's of any interest. My heads a lot better now but I still use Efudix from time to time.

two weeks now at twice a day " BID "   . i've decided to treat some suspicious  areas on arms and chest as well  and rounded up an additional tube  ($40 for the 20 g size) . two of the more serious looking spots  on my check and colar bone have all but disappeared  and i'm beginning to think  i can avoid any additional  cutting and burning  and of course the expense .

i found a link we're 12  doctors  discussed their use of efudex and have promised myself to continue treatment on ( scalp only )  BID for 45-60 days .

it's 100 degrees today and no A/C  ( perhaps not the best conditions for treatment )  . i feel like i have a severe sunburn  and on my scalp , a funny taste in my mouth and i have not been sleeping well  but ......................all in all pretty pleased

I have also just started the treatment ( about two weeks) and was told by the Doc that if it gets too painfull to stop for a few days and apply some Hydrocortisone Cream to calm it down, which I have done. I will start again shortly.
