Diagnosed with RCC w/mets to lungs and lymph 6/08. Been on Sutent sice diagnosis.  Last few months have had breathing difficulties which are much worse during break from Sutent even though cancer in lungs continues to improve.  now am not able to take break at all and breathing keeps me from doing nearly everything.  I have to take several breaks to just walk to bathroom.

Has anyone had similar experience?  Did you get an explanation for breathing getting worse tho cancer is getting better?  What treatments have worked?

I am using proair inhaler, symbicort 2x a day, nebulizer treatments several times a dat and just started spiriva.  Using oxygen also.

 Any info would be appreciated.

I was diagnosed with RCC in April 08.  I was on 5 cycles of Sutent before switching to torisel. I know this is going to sound crazy but it may be heartburn.  Ask your doctor about it. I found that even before my diagnosis I had trouble breathing and my chest hurt when I tried to do anything. I was given nexium and it helped.

I hope this helps

The sutent stopped working after 5 cycles -- initially it did great. The tumors were shrinking.  The side effects were tough though.
