Maalox

Noticed someone mentioned maalox for gas. It helps, but also wanted to mention we had a persistent problem with dehydration, even after chemo stopped. Pat started taking quite a bit of maalox, instead of the homeopathic remedy we usually used. After months of visits for fluid I  read a chapter on acid-base and fluid balance foe school and realized the bicarbonate in the maalox might be throwing his fluid balance off. He stopped the maalox and stopped needing to be hydrated regularly. I had mentioned this possibility to the doctor previously and she looked at me like I had 3 heads so I didn't try it at that point. It was a few months before I realized he had made the switch almost totally away from homeopathic and decided to experiment with my theory.

Thank you for the info.  I looked at both the Rolaids Multi-symptom and the Maalox Advanced tablets and both of them have calcium carbonate and simethicone.  I did a search and found I should not use a tablet with simethicone within 2 hours of taking Levothyroxine for thyroid either.  I'll be sure to drink extra fluids as I drink a lot of coffee and that also dehydrates.  If it isn't one thing it's another.  My doctor had recommended the Simethicone for gas, but in the form of Amphogel.

What do you use as a home remedy for the gas pains as both my husband and I chew these tablets regularly?

My husband uses a homeopathic remedy called Acidil. I've used homeopathy for years and frequently was able to avoid trips to the MD, and if we couldn't beat it with the remedies and ended up with something like bronchitis (I'm asthmatic), we could always make a visit to the doctor. The acidil works very well for him most of the time. He also uses homeopathic carbo veg (homeopathic form of charcoal) sometimes if he has a lot of gas rolling around in his stomach and gets relief. They usually have a fair selection of remedies in the health food store or natural section of grocery stores. Have even bought a few in CVS in the past few years, so it's becoming more mainstream.

Thank you again.  I have written down the names of both and on my next trip to the health food store, I will make a purchase.  Since my chemo, I have been troubled terribly with skin sores.  One dermatologist said it is because I lost all my hair and now I have faliculitis as the hairs try to move through the skin again.  But, after 5 years??????  Anyhow, I have been purchasing Tea Tree lotion, hair shampoo, and soap.  It relieves the itch and softens the skin.  I wonder sometimes if the meds are causing my skin to react.  We have an iridologist locally and I am tempted to see him for the skin and nails.  People say he is very good.  Oh well,  just part of life.  I appreciate your posts.
