My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal almost 4 years ago. He has an occasional beer but it was quite a while before he could drink a whole one. He only has 2/3 of a stomach and 1/2 and esophagus which can makes digestion challenging for many of these patients. I suspect if he can get a beer down without any harm, you can too.

Might you be depressed and in need of medication to get out of your rut? It's not uncommon for cancer patients to need a boost to get back on track. Some places have counselors who work with survivors also. They have unique issues they are dealing with.

Hi Daniel, why not have a beer, but in moderation. My stepfather use to make his own beer he died in his seventies but be careful though, he died the same way  Herod the king of the Jews died in the bible. My step father died of liver failure he was a wonderful man, all was there with a smile for me, Here an artical and a link from a site on  beer and cancer

Cheers mate Ray

Some cancers are caused by heterocyclic amines, DNA-damaging chemicals found in cooked meat and fish. When Sakae Arimoto-Kobayashi's team at Okayama University in Japan fed these chemicals to mice, the DNA damage to their liver, lungs and kidneys was reduced by up to 85% if the mice drank non-alcoholic beer instead of water.

Arimoto-Kobayashi thinks as-yet unidentified compounds in lager and stout prevent the amines binding to and damaging DNA. If these compounds can be identified, brewers might be able to produce beers particularly rich in them, or they could be added to foods.

Heavy alcohol consumption is blamed for around 6% of all cancers in western countries (New Scientist print edition, 18 December 2004), though moderate consumption reduces the risk of heart disease. Since the mice drank non-alcoholic beer, the findings do not show whether moderate consumption of normal beer has any anti-cancer benefits. "The total benefits and risks of beer with alcohol are still under consideration," says Arimoto-Kobayashi

Daniel,

  I have advanced prostate cancer, I was diagnosed four and half years ago. Howver due to my holistic approach my cancer seems to gone, my last psa test was 0.46, and I still have my prostate and I am not on Hormone therapy.

 Back to your question, last Thursday I went to a seminar and afterwords I had 2 beers. I guess what I am saying anything in moderation is okay. there is life after advanced prostate cancer and you can win. If you overdue it, just like most things alcohol would be harmful to your immune system. I don't know where you are with treatment or what was your initial  diagnoses.

Today I enjoy life and to me everyday is a blessing. I suggest you try to enjoy the moment and appreciate the fact your alive and not dwell on the fact you have cancer.

Dan;

My husband has stage 4 prostate cancer.  He has been on and off the hormone therapy.  He just had a bone scan and cat scan.  It has gotten worse since his last scans (1 yr ago); however, his psa dropped from 22 to 3.22 in 1 month on hormone therapy.  How are you controlling your cancer without the hormone therapy?

 I also have him on cottage cheese/flaxseed oil and supplements.

  Hormone therapy will eventually become androgen reisitent at some point. You should consider diet and supplements for the long run. Plus you get your life back and live like you use to prior to your treatment. Personally I would never consider hormone therapy, the side effects are too nasty.

Have a beer for me

Dan
