Hi to my older friends and hi to new ones it will be a year since my esophageal cancer surgery in nov.  NO MORE CANCER.  I have had stomach problems since the surgery things are always going to be different not able to eat like I used too.  lost weight not enjoying food.  I have been on this medication called Regalin it helps with the terrible spsams that I have been dealing with for a year.  it got so bad in July I thought I was having a heart attack thank god it was a bad spsam so Dr. told me to take this Regalin 4 times daily 10mg well finally I am having a bad reaction  I FEEL WEAK DEPRESSED LOTS OF ANXEITY, so I stop taking it.  Now the Dr. wants to try this simalair medicine that you can only get from Canada called Domperidone.  hopefully its side effects are not the same.  if they are I am in big trouble Anyway  does this sound familiar to anyone out there?  sheila7

Hi Sheila,

First, congratulations of the NO MORE CANCER!!

My husband had the IL surgery in March 2008 for Stage 3 EC followed by 4 months of chemo.  During the period after after his chemo, he had at least 4 ambulance rides to the hospital because of the excruitating pain from esophageal spasms (during each of these rides he was administered morphine for the pain).  He, too, thought he was going to have a heart attack from the pain.

I think my husband tried Regalin, too.  He's not home right now but I just went into the medicine cabinet to find his "little green pills" that he says helps him with these spasms and they are called Hyomax (.125 mg.) and the bottle says to 1 tablet every 6 hours or as needed.  His primary dr. wrote him a prescription for these pills and he swears by them.   Some of the side effects are:  may cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision but, as far as I know, he hasn't experience any of these.

If you are interested in this medication, let me know so I can verify with him that I have the right pills for these spasms.

Maria

Hi Sheila: Actually, I have been having stomach problems as well and my surgeon just did and endoscope and food my food is not digesting properly and my stomach lining is irritated. He had put me on this same medication, Domperidone, and so far I have not had any side effects from it at all. I have not been on it long enough to know if it is helping or not, but like you I have absolutely no appetite what so ever, food has absolutely no appeal to me. I've lost 9 lbs in a month. I now weight 130 so at 4'11", I am still okay. I think it will always be this way. He told me to eat softer foods, but no dilation was necessary, and I am still cancer free. Hope this helps.

Take Care and Be Positive

Patrick came home from his Ivor Lewis with reglan a few years ago and had nervous tics from it so surgeon immediately took him off it. When he saw his gastroenterologist he wanted to put him on reglan and I told him what had happened. He put him on domperidone instead and he has been taking it for several years. He used to just take it at bedtime, but now he takes it 3-4 times a day. We also have a compounding pharmacy locally that will compound it with the assurance from the doctor that it is for gastro use, but it is more expensive there.

Hi My husband had many issues with pain and spasms after eating. Many trips to the emerg department for pain relief. He finds he has to totally relax after a meal, sit in his chair until the meal settles. If he moves around too much after eating he still experiences pain and discomfort. He is a year out of surgery now, he takes a medication called Nabalone it helps him relax and makes him hungry. Knock on wood no emerg visits for at least three months. Hope this helps. Margaret
