Diagnosed about a month ago, help!

It's been such a long road, forgive me for the length...our 12 year old lab has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer after having some bouts of incontinence and abnormal test results.  We started him out on piroxicam, twice a day..was doing better up until the last two weeks or so, he has started vomiting and having bloody stools and absolutely no appetite.  Vet then said discontinue the piroxicam for now and gave him 2 meds to treat the stomach/colon irritation/bleeding, we're finishing up on that in the next day.  He still has little to no appetite, he is drinking water, but seems to have a problem with swallowing now it seems, he's acting funny when he does swallow, the only way i've been able to get him to eat a couple of bites is to feed him off of a fork, today he turned away from scrambled eggs which has been one of his favorites for as long as we've had him! We're lost as to where to go next, he's lost weight and it's evident when you look at him, he's not acting as happy as he was..and it breaks my heart.  The vet said we'll next do a set of xrays/ultrasounds to see where we're dealing with, but I wonder if we're just being selfish, is he miserable? he's not crying as he was when first diagnosed, but he can't be comfortable...I just wanted to get some other opinions from those dealing with this or having been through this...we know that with his age even if treatment were to be working we're not looking at long time but I'm not ready right now...thanks...
