Does this sound like cancer has metastasized???

Hello,

My sister had surgery in May to remove a large mass from her left kidney...The mass was actually 11cm.  It is renal cell...and at the time of biopsy, they said it was stage 3 with no mets and no margins were invaded...however, it did go into some fatty tissue.

She had a CT in August because she is actually battling mutliple myeloma as well and she is going through a stem cell transplant.  Well in August, they found about 12 nodules on her lungs. The doc said they were too small to biopsy and in 6 weeks she would have another CT. She had the scan done over the weekend and yesterday was told the nodules did grow and that she needs to follow up with a lung specialist.

In a likeliehood, does this mean her renal cancer has spread to her lungs....in such a short amount of time????  Is there a chance that this could be nothing?

Thanks and God Bless.

Danielle

I had nodules that spread to my lungs. I started taking Sutent right after I had my right kidney removed and so far, after 18 months, the nodules have not increased in size. I recommend speaking to a doctor about some of the drugs now on the market that slow down the growth. Good luck

You need to see a Urologic Oncologist. They specialize in RCC. The tumors now being seen in your lungs were likely there when you had the primary tumor removed but were to small for detection.

If the primary tumor was RCC, trust me, you need a doctor who specializes in that type of Cancer, not a doctor whose specialty is Lung Cancer!

If I've discovered anything it is this, all cancers ARE NOT alike and the treatments for each are also different. Get the right help because your life really does depend on it!
