From 4 months to live to NED

Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, and all that is within me bless His holy name.  He has done great things...

My husband Layne was diagnosed in April, and when he was, I was told he had about four months to live.  We sought a second opinion, and that took us to MD Anderson in Houston.  He was stage IVm1A.

In Houston, they told us that they were sure he would still be here in 18 months.  That was great news!

Then the celiac nodes resolved....and then we did proton radiation.  Today, we met with the surgeon, and we were scheduled for surgery though at this moment, his PET shows him NED.

Never give up hope.  Never stop trying, and never stop praying.  A wise man told me at the beginning of this journey that only God knows...and truly, only God knows.  He decides.

We will update after surgery.  Thank you to everyone here who gave me info and support!

Betty,

This is a woderful place. I had my IL 1 year ago August 12. I at this time have no complications. I can eat a steak and baked potato with no problems. At my time of surgery, they took out about 40 nodes. He went up all the way to the bronchi near the airway.

Now am I cured? We for sure won't go that far yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have some very experienced surgeons there. While stage 4 used to be a death sentence, we are seeing more progress at the 4 level. They are cleaning things up and then doing the surgery. I feel like this is wonderful progress. While it still may not totally cure a pt, stage 4 pts are living longer now thanks to these advances. Lets pray that these advances continue.

I live one day at a time now, and enjoy every minute of it. Everday is beautiful to me. HOT, COLD, RAINY, SNOWY; IT IS ALL GOOD!

I am sure all will keep you in mind during your surgery. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! That is great news! My mom was dx in April too. She did radiation for 15 days and then chemo, just about to finish the third round this week (Taxol at reduced dosage). What kinds of treatments did you husband go through to be NED today? How old is he? I guess he had mets to lymph nodes, no other organs?

Thanks for sharing the wonderful news with us.

God bless you and your husband. God can and does work miracles. I have seen many since I was dx for myself and many others. Keep the faith and enjoy all of it.

Hello, my husband has also been diagnosed with stage 4. It a scary time. I am wondering if we should go to MD anderson. Can u tell me where the cancer has spread and if the chemo was successful? Also what type of chemo did he receive?
