Mum has since died

Hi I just wanted to update anyone who has read my previous messages.  My 80 year old mum was diagnosed with stage I aden carcinoma on 1 July 2009 and she died in hospital on Thursday 24 September 2009.

We were told by our own doctor she could have another year or so.  She had pain where the biopsy had been taken and was given Oxycontin and Oxynorm to take.  They were not really hitting the pain and her oncologist said it could be nerve pain so gave her a pill called lureca.

They forgot about her having bad kidneys and the drugs were not passing through and ended up building up in her body and she went dehydrated and delirious.  We phoned the hospice nurse and the doctor and they said the lureca can do this to you and to stop it and we will see a difference in 24 hours.  There was no difference and we phoned an ambulance ourselves.  It was too late and my mum never regained consiousness and died 2 days later.

Make sure if anyone you know has cancer that the doctors check out their history and if they have any underlying kidney problems then make sure you remind them about it.  It is too late for my mum now, we buried her yesterday and this time last week she was great and looking forward to moving house with my sister.  She was actually out picking carpets with us.

Mel, I am so sorry. Words cannot adequately express how sad this is... what a loss. You all were doing everything you could for her comfort. You are an extremely caring and giving person to even write and warn others of the potential danger when you must be just feeling so devastated.

I hope that over time the happy memories of your mother become a source of joy in your heart. She would want that, right?

Blessed be,

Sarah

Hello Mel:

My condolences to you and your family.  I know how it felt.  My 83 yo dad was supposed to be released from Hospital for Pneumonia after 3 wks antibotic treatment.  He vomited in blood - gastric ulcer due to bedrest and then was sedated too strong and sunk into coma immediately.  Doctors advised us to take away those life supports, my Dad held on for 3 more wks with only IV and passed.  I regretted since.

With Mom we watched like hawks and still failed to rescue her due to Hospital/doctors errors/mistake on over-drugging her.  62 days since she passed, I miss her terribly each hour every day.  My mom had not given a 2nd chance at all for her 65 of age. Diagnosis of LC and die within 9 months later !!!   I m still mad at the man above and myself.

Take care,

Regards,

Victoria
