I had an almost 3 inch carcinoid tumor removed from my right lung in late October 2008.  My symptons started with extreme mouth dryness, a lot of mucus and my speech started to slow.  Before long my voice was hoarse. I went to my primary care physican who did thyroid testing - negative.  He then sent me to an ENT who treated me for allergies - which only made it worse.  All thru this ordeal I was getting severe nosebleeds and had to have my nose cuaterized 3 times.  I switched ENT's and he sent me for a neck & throat CT scan. the lung tumor was found in this scan.  I was shocked - I am a non-smoker.  I had a brain MRI and a PET scan & no other cancer was found.  I did have my tonsils removed in Sept, 2008 because one side was very enlarged - had been my whole life.  But doctors jsut wanted to make sure - they were chronically infected.  7 weeks after that surgery I had the lung surgery at Sloan Kettering.  the surgery went fine except that I had a reaction to the anesthesia and the surgeon said that due to my very narrow passages they beat the hell out of me inserting tubes & the bronchioscope.  Consequently I awoke to a very swollen mouth, tongue and throat - couldn't speak or eat.  I have healed well from the surgery but am still having problems with my speech and swallowing.  I have been to top NYC neurologists and they are stymied.  I am believing I have some sort of carcinoid syndrome.  I have a very sensitive body .  Has this happened to anyone else?
