Can someone tell me about the phase two DIEP Flap procedure? I know they make the nipples but is there some lipo suction also?

To answer your question, I believe they always make the breast a little big so that they have room to go back and "sculp" the breast to what they want.  Yes this can involve liposuction in some cases.  I had my DIEP 2 years ago and could not be any happier.  I love my new breast and you would never be able to tell the difference just by looking at me.  I have not had any problems and new breast feels very natural.  The recovery time is about the same but a lot less involved and is done as an out patient proceedure. I had my surgeon do extra lipo on another part of my body while I was there.  My surgeon constructed my nipples in his office a few weeks later after the swelling went down.  There is no feeling in the area so there was no need to use anesthesia and I watched him perform the proceedure.

Good luck to you and hope you enjoy your new breast(s).

Hi All:

I am trying to decide where to do my DIEP and wondering where you have done your.  There is a doctor in Denver or close by who seems to have a pretty good success rate.  Anyone else know of some one in Colorado that has a high success rate?

Hi, I had DIEP on September 16, 2009 in Colorado.  My surgeons are wonderful and I believe they are the only team of docs in Colorado who do the surgery.  They are Chris Williams and Jeremy Williams (not related) at Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery in Lone Tree (a suburb south of Denver).  I am 7 weeks out and so glad I had the surgery!  I had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.  I am scheduled for phase two on December 18.  As far as their success rate, I was told that 1 in 100 flaps are "lost" meaning the blood flow cannot be established.  They are super meticulous during surgery to avoid losing a flap.  I highly recommend checking them out.  Not only are they very educated and well trained but they are nice guys!
