Donna, I was reading the response from atomicjoy and at first I had to look to see who wrote it. My story begins the same, microcalcifications with a 10% chance of malignancy and it was. Thyroid nodules which turned out to be stage 3 thyroid cancer. But today I'm doing well because I was diagnosed and treated. I would agree that I would push for a biopsy even if I had to find another doctor to do so. You are probably making yourself sick worrying and this doesn't do anyone any good. Talk to your doctor and tell him you can't sleep at nights and if he or she doesn't move forward, find another doctor. If all turns out to be okay that you can relax for now. Keep us informed.
Leemg,
I post on the thyroid cancer thread as well as this one. In fact, there are a couple of us on the thyroid thread that have had both breast and thyroid cancer. I was diagnosed in March 06 with Stage 1 BC and was diagnosed in March 09 with Stage 3 thyroid cancer with a Tall cell variant (a more aggressive form). My thyroid cancer was already there when I was diagnosed with breast cancer but went undetected because I was too passive and put too much trust in my doctors at the time. It is really up to each and every one of us to be proactive in our own healthcare. After all, you know your own body best and you know when something is wrong despite of what a doctor may tell you to ignore.
Atomicjoy
Atomicjoy, I can't believe that we are like a carbon copy of one another. I too was diagnosed with stage 1 BC but in September of 2003, and stage 3 thyroid cancer (also tall cell, more aggressive variant) in August 2007, after awhile it all goes together. I was not aware of any problem with my thyroid so that was also a total surprise. I'm assuming it had spread to some lymph nodes to be classified as stage 3 (thyroid cancer)? I had a left neck dissection in February of 2008. So far it looks stable, although my thyroglobulin is measureable it is still under 2. Breast cancer is stable as well although I've had two biopsies since. How are you doing? My parotid glands were damaged, not right away, but after my year scan so I deal with dry mouth. (I lost one parathyroid gland with surgery). I also have problems keeping my calcium levels within normal limits and had a low D which has been corrected. Love to hear how things have gone for you.
