dental problems due to radiation treatment

Does anyone know of any support or help with funding fro someone that has suffered severe dental problems due to Radiation treatment. My friend's teeth are literally breaking off and falling out out of his mouth due the damage left by radiation, he has very little plate left so just regular dentures are not an option, one reccomendation was hyperbaric chamber treatments to build up the plates in the jaw so he could support dental implants, any and all repsonses are welcome. There is also a problem with cost so far the best estimate they been given for the total procedures is $80,000. Im sure ther are ways to do it cheaper and I have to belelive there are ways to get help paying for it..need your help desperately

Good morning

There are quite a few good links on the web: http://www.getfreedental.com/ its a process to fill out form etc but sometimes its worth it. My sons teeth have started to break from radiation but the chemo is also a bigger culprit. What type of radiation and what part of the body is the friend having?

Your friends doctors not doubt would have to approve his dental care right now. Sometimes if the WBC or platelets are too high/low the surgeries are not permitted. Plus they will need to help with the forms.

Good luck!!!!

I have had issues with teeth breaking, and fillings falling out since my treatment in 2007. I have yet to seek replacement as I too have been concerned by the cost.

A good friend of mine spent over $5000 out of pocket to repair teeth damage due to colon cancer chemo.  The dentist actually wanted to remove all her teeth and replace them, but at age 83 that just seemed ridiculous to my friend.  Her dentist did pay her taxi bill, as his office was not on a transit line and she has chosen not to drive.  Fortunately she could afford the $5T, but the very idea that dental damage related to cancer treatment is not covered when other therapies are is absurd.  (My friend lived to age 86, after surviving breast cancer and skin cancer, followed by colon cancer.  Oh my.)
