Caring Bridge website service

Does anyone use the Caring Bridge website service? We found out about it from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, where Tom is being treated. I love our site, and we're able to keep friends and family up to date with Tom's situation without everyone individually calling,  calling people and updating them a thousand times.

The site is free, and here's the homepage with instructions:

http://www.caringbridge.org/

And here's a link to Tom's website (moderators, if it's not okay to include this, please remove it).

http://www.caringbridge.org/ visit/tomgentile-medford

The problem is that the site's not "searchable", in that I can't search for others with brain tumors; I can't search for others in the Boston area. So I'm just trying to find out who uses the site, and how to connect with you if you do.

Thanks - Linda

Hi there,

My girlfriend used this site for her husband, and it gave her great comfort. I guess you have to put it out there and hope your site comes to someone's attention who shares your situation.  Word of mouth is amazing with that site, and somehow people find you.  (I guess we ought to do one as well.) Good luck with it, and here's a site of someone (GBM survivor) I found through a friend:

Take care,

Linda -

Love CaringBridge. My clergy recommended it to me shortly after we got home from my husband's surgery.  It has been a great tool for me to get information out there without having to answer stupid questions(and yes, as we all know, people do ask stupid questions).  I found a very special friend recently while looking at someone else's CB page with a GBM.  In fact, she visits this message board, as well.  My friend Sarah! It is so important to make connections with those experiencing similar (if not the same) issues, emotions, etc.  One can feel very much alone in the brain tumor world, can't they?

I use carepages for my husband and the site is searchable.  I'll register on your husband's site to get updates and if you'd like, you can go onto my husband's site.  There is a ton of support from fellow GBM caregivers on his site.

 Best wishes.

My husband's site is: www.carepages.com

I used care pages when my husband was being treated for cancer last year-great site-wonderful way to keep family and friends updated- especially those who live a distance away.

Yes, Caringbridge is one of the best ways to use your precious minutes for communicating with the big world.

It's not for everyone. A lot of people have told me that they just can't read it all the time... I don't  know why. Too depressing?

Also, I am pretty careful about what I write on our CB site. Some stuff is too personal or private. (I know of a couple of CB pages that make me cringe. It is NOT a personal diary, IMHO!) I try to respect those boundaries. My other non-BT son said he didn't want to have his picture taken any more, for example, because he feels like everything gets put on the internet and he has no control over it. So I've tried to pull back in a little, and just share the news.

I also find that writing on it, like writing here, helps me to accept what we're going through. There it is, in black and white.

And then there's Holly. <3 What a dear friend!
