Help please with blood work question

Hello everyone. I have a question, I have MM I had an auto stem cell transplant 2 yrs ago. All of my blood works seems to be good except my red cells. My doctors has been concerned that my blood tests keep coming back that my red cells are too small. He has sent me for an upper GI and colonoscopy, both came back fine. What makes your red cells to small? I asked him if taking an iron supplement would help and he says my multi-vitamin should be enough. He seems to think I am bleeding inside somewhere. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

Hello,

I don't know if this will help much, but I think they must of discovered your red cell blood problem on a blood smear. I have mgus not MM but acquired a bleeding disorder from my mgus. When I was having surgery I had to receive high doses of IVIG (immunogloblins) and steriods for 5 days to get through the surgery. However, my red blood cells also became too small. I think they call it microcytosis. But, I also had macrocytosis, ovalocyte and toxic granulation in my red blood cells. So, I think you can be bleeding from somewhere or your treatments are causing your red cells to become smaller. More tests should tell them where your problem is. I also became anemic from the IVIG and steriods.
