I have had melanoma skin cancer twice in 8 years and my skin doctor told me that I am at high risk for it to come back. I just found out today that there is such a thing as rectal cancer. That is kinda scary. Does anyone know what some of the symtoms are to draw concern for the doctor to check you out???

I know nothing about rectal melanoma, but perhaps is same as anal melanoma of which there was a previous posting on this sight which may be a place to start for info on symptoms of rectal melanoma.  It was posted on 8-21-09 by Nancy titled anal melanoma.   I think any symptoms your body is giving you would be reason for a doctor to check it out.  My knowledge of melanoma is to get yourself to a treatment center specializing in melanoma.....run . . .  do not walk.  Praying for you!

Hello, sorry to hear your news, and sorry also to be a harbinger of doom, but I have heard nothing good about melanoma ever. I am sure you are familiar, since it has come back and might come back again. My friend had melanoma 16 yrs ago; then she starting having symptoms, but ignored them and didn't seek medical help. At some point she finally went to the doc. By then it had metastized, and she was given 3 months to live. That's just what happened, and she passed away last Wednesday. Regarding rectal cancer, you might have heard the actress Farrah Fawcett died recently from rectal cancer, and her journey was documented in film and print. Maybe that would help. I don't know rectal symptoms aside from bleeding perhaps. If you are having pain or bleeding, do see your doctor to rule out hemarroids, and to test further. Of course you have to keep on top of the melanoma! As the other poster said, RUN DON'T WALK to the best doctor you can find. Good luck, I hope you find the answers you seek
