Please help, need clarification

My mother in law in Mexico has been diagnosed with cancer.  It is very difficult to get a full picture of what is going on.  She had a complete historectomy in january of this year.  Previously she had an ulcer for a year or two before that had been treated.  She stopped taking the medication when she felt better, which led to her getting sicker later and the diagnosis of cancer.  They have not done stomarch surgury.  She has been having chemo since january of february.  Last results were that the blood test and I think a colonoscopy were okay (maybe an endoscopy, like I said hard to get a clear picture of whats going on).  She just went to a surgeon who said that they would not to surgery and that she would be doing chemo (a drinkable kind?).  However, she went to the doctor (a different one) and he said there was nothing he could do.  This was confusing to her regular oncologist.  Does anyone have any idea what might be going on.  I'm guessing she is in stage 4, only because she had cancer in her uterus and has had a lump on her neck that was cancerous.  She currently has more lumps on her neck.  My husband, is quite distraught.  Does anyone have any advice, understanding.  Anything would be appreciated.  From what I've read, if she is in stage 4, her life expectancy is short, but hate to tell my husband this.  I'm sure he knows, but hard to handle, since he is here in the U.S. and not down there with his mother.  Please help.

My husband was diagnosed yesterday with stomach cancer.  We were told by the doctor that if the cancer has not passed through the stomach lining and entered too many lymph nodes he could have the stomach removed (and live), but if the cancer has spread passed the stomach lining and entered too many lymph nodes then he can have chemo and with 80% change of surviving 1-3 years (not live).  It does not sound too good for your mother-in-law.  I'm sorry.  We are still waiting to hear today about my husband.
