My dads blood marker came back at 1577 and it was previously 962 a month ago.  Does anyone know if this is a really high number?

It usually is not the particular number of the CA 19-9 that is important, but rather the trend of the numbers.  If the numbers have been trending up, and your father is on chemo, it generally means the chemo is no longer working and should be changed to a new chemo protocol.  Have you discussed this with your father's oncologist?  It is important not to go for longer than absolutely necessary without chemo.

Best wishes for you and your father.

I agree with another responder to your post.  It is the trend of the numbers that is the most important.  I have heard of patients with a ca 19.9 of 50,000 to 100,000.  I can tell you that a big jump is not good news and you should look into alternatives.

The tumor marker CA 19-9 is the one to watch, if it keeps going up, he is not responding to treatment. I am going through the same pain as you, with my Mom battling pc.

My mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 2-1/2 years ago. She had the whipple procedure, chemo and radiation. She is currently taking an alternative treatment called Lifeone and doing well. She has been on it for one month. She went on the treatment because her markers were going up and she could not sleep at night because of pain. Her pain is completely gone.
