Hi: You said exactly what the problem is. Your liver does not like Gleevec. Some people have to change to other treatments. I know a lot of people who have had to go on Tasigna after Gleevec not working or having it effect other organs. Tasigna is working very well for a lot of patients. I always say to be sure that you are seeing a CML Specialist for proper care.
I was diagnosed with CML in 1998, and was put on the old treatment of Interferon, and it was ruining my liver. I had to come off of it, and had to wait months before I could get into a clinical trial for Gleevec. There was nothing else available for me at that time. Anyone being diagnosed now, has options with different treatments, and they are fortunate.
