C19-9 result

My dad has his first C19-9 and it came back as 41.9. I know the normal range is up to 37, but what does 41.9 mean in comparison within the abnormal range? How high can the level go? This test was done after 1 cycle of chemo (3 weeks on 1 week off). He will start radiation and F5U for the next 5 weeks. A "lesion of concern" was found on his liver which they will also target with radiation. Any info would be helpful- it's so hard to figure some of this language out being a "newbie" to all of this. Thanks.

CA19-9 can range into the thousands.  My first test came back at 2,567 and after stents were placed, it was down to 546, and at present it ranges from 17-29.  Lots of prayer.  No surgery other than the stents placed to drain liver thru bile ducts.  Also have not had any chemo and because of genetic issues will never be able to have radiation, so GOD is my great physician and He is in control.

With the count so low in the beginning, I'll bet they are saying the chemo is working, so good luck.  Standing in the gap for you.

Thank you so much Cathy for your message and info. This was my dad's first CA19-9 test- which took place a month and a half after his Whipple surgery but before he had any chemo. He has now had a month of chemo and is moving into radiation with 5FU. Yes, GOD is in control and is by my side. It's with His love that we will get through this. I'm raying for your continued health as well.
