Hi Everyone,

My dad has be suffering from bad mouth soars on and off since he started chemo in April/09.  They were so bad at one point that for him to eat mashed potatoes was very painful. He had the precription mouth wash and used the baking soda rince as well but they kept on coming back.

2 chemo sessions ago he was getting his chemo and the nurse asked   how he was doing.  My dad said great other then his bad mouth sores.  She recommended that my dad eat a couple popsicles during he chemo treatment and one when there are flushing his port/pump out.  Well can you believe that something so simple is working great.  He has a little one this week but nothing at all compaired to before.  He can still eat as he normally does.  We are so happy that this has worked for my dad and just wanted to share just incase anyone else is suffering with these bad mouth soars.  He also keeps up with his baking soda washes after every meal and before bed.

Hope this helps

Christine

Hi Christine,

I am doing something similar except with ice chips.  My doctor suggested that I do it during the 5FU bolus and then for the next 2 days while I'm on my pump.  Obviously this won't work if the patient is on Oxaliplatin due to the cold sensitivity.
