My 9 year old Westie Todo was just diagnosed with bladder cancer and the tumor in the urethra and into the vulva.  I am absolutely overwhelmed.  We cannot removed the tumor in the bladder and I won't do anything invasive.  Just started her today on 2.5 mg of prioxicam.  I am having a hard time deciding if I should do chemo too.  Any thoughts from anyone on these issues.

I'm so sorry to hear that your Westie is battling bladder cancer.  There have been so many of us with Westies on this site.  It makes me so sad.  My Willie has been fighting his cancer for about 16 months now.  He takes piroxicam (3 mg for his 20 lbs) daily for five days, takes a day off and then starts again.  The tumor was initially removed and the piroxicam held it at bay for a while.  Now the tumor is growing rather rapidly.  I am also weighing the pros and cons of chemo for him.  I am leaning toward not doing it.  His quality of life has been terrific for the past months.  I hate to risk taking any of his good days away on the outside chance that chemo might prolong his life.  However, the idea of not doing everything possible is also unthinkable.

There is a lot of information in the old posts on this board.  If you have the time you can learn a lot by going back and reading through them.  I hope you'll post again on how Todo is doing.  Until then, you and Todo will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sue
