Hello...i had a pap smear done on september 30th (2009) and my doctor called me last friday and told me that my pap results came back and they were abnormal. This is the second time my pap is abnormal...and i am so scared i cry and cry everyday. I feel so lonley and I dont wan to tell anyone about this because I am so embarrased. I think I am going to have a LEEP I dont know when but my doctor is going to tell me today. I'm really scared because I dont know if I have an HPV or if I have already cervical cancer I have a lot of questions about this. I am so worried about the cost of all this or treatment that i will need. I have no insurance and dont know what to do. I'm 22 yrs old. One of the questions that I have and i hope anyone knows something about this is if I have HPV I am guessing my boyfriend does too right? So if everything goes good and normal can he give me the virus again? Please help me

HPV is a virus and once you get it, you never get rid of it.  It lives in your body forever.  You will always have the virus but you may not always have an infection.  It's easy to compare to cold sores.  Cold sores are caused by a herpes virus.  You always will have the virus but you don't always have cold sores.  And yes, your boyfriend probably has it too then.  Its actually very common to have and it's very easy to spread...don't even have to have sex.  But, so far, researches state that it hasn't been found to be very troublesome for men.  There are over a hundred strains of this virus.  Abnormal PAP's are also very common.  Did your dr. tell you what it found?  Usually, a colposcopy and biopsy would come next and then a LEEP unless they found High grade cells on your PAP, then they may go straight to the LEEP.  Good luck and try not to worry too much!!  Talk to your doctor and get as much info as possible.

Hi mle3999!

Thank you for taking your time to read my post. I finnaly when and talk to my doctor and she told me that my pap came back abnormal because they found ASC-US. I guess that means that the cells are starting to change. I know this is not good but when she told me I felt so much better. The next thing that I am going to have to do is a Colpo. I am getting all my paper work and insurance ready to do it ASAP. The thing that is killing me is that I haven't tell anyone about this and feel so lonely. I really dont want to talk about it. I kind of told my mom a little bit but I just dont want to scare her. Well, I guess the only thing that I have to do right now is relax and wait until I get the colpo done. I am very nervous but I trust in God and I know everything is going to be alright!

I really want to thank all you girls for all the information and your attention. I am glad I found this site now I know that I am not by myself and that I am not the only one that is going through this. Thanks a lot!!

God bless you all!!!

My sister had the LEEP procedure done 5 years ago after a bad pap and finding squamous cancer cells on her cervix. She had a baby the following year. I hope all goes well with you.

Best luck to you!

First of all, I am so sorry you are going through this.

Second, you need someone to talk to. Talk to your mom. Put all the anger, shame, scared, whatever feelings to the side. You are dealing with something that your mom would, more likely than not, want to know about and help you through. If your relationship with her is not strong or you just can't go to her, then go to a friend. You need someone. This message board is great, but it can't hug you when you need it. And trust me, you'll want a hug or two.

You can do this. But you need to arm yourself with research so you understand what your doctor is saying and doing. No question is dumb. If your doctor doesn't answer your questions, then get a new one. Any doctor who doesn't answer questions or brushes you off is dumb.

Not to scare you, but this is your health and you are the only one who can take control here. Settle for nothing less than you deserve. What you deserve is the best care you can find by a doctor who will answer your questions and be brutally honest with you. This is the time for you to empower yourself and become knowledgeable and fight for your health!

Good luck!!
