Going on 5 weks nor post TX, doing pretty good ( I think) Eating mushy food, drinking, maybe 1/3 cal by mouth now. I have a question for the long tim post TX's, how long does your throat hurt. I can eat/dring, but it certainally gets my attention! I am still on Meds, when I eat near a med time it is OK, but if I am a couple of hours off, Wow it hurts. I think of taking majic mouth wash and some times do.

Thanks

Steve

Steve,

Your just about at the point where your throat should slowly start feeling better. as mentioned before, we all heal differently and the time frames fall into that also.

We all " Cook " for several weeks after our Radiation Treatments. Some people start to feel a bit better after 3 weeks out, some 5 weeks out. I seem to remember falling in between that at around 4 weeks. You can't see them, but your throat has sores in there as well as your mouth.

When I used the Baking soda and Salt solution, I would rinse/ gargle and then spit. Then I would sip a little more and let it run down my throat, seemed to help me. I also did the same with the Biotene mouthwash.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

My Best to You and Everyone Here

Use your magic mouthwash and time your meds and then be patient with yourself..eat while watching TV one spoonful or one tough swallow at a time....but take it one meal at a time and figure out what you can eat..if you have to eat it ever day until you are sick of it do it until you can eat something else.......a scambled egg......really whipped mashed potatoes...pancake,,,,,find out what you can eat then try to supplement with a vitamin milk or drink from Walmart or Sams Club like an Ensure etc....but the act of swallowing takes practice...eat smaller meals over the course of the day....nothing tastes well with magic mouthwash but just keep thinking in 2 weeks I'll feel a little better than 2 weeks after that I will fell a little better...experiment but mostly be patient and kind to yourself because it simply takes time.....but you can do it-never give up on your best day or your worst day....Your Savior is holding his hands out for you and the Holy Spirit waits for your call or invitation and they will be by your side.....grace sufficient for a day....then one day at a time....you will get there!!!!!!!!!!  Oudave

Hi Steve,

My hubbie was about three months out when things started to turn around for him significantly - at about 12 wks he stopped pain meds and had his tube removed. Give yourself time, you sound like you're doing so well already in consideration of everything you've been through.

Wow, I read this today and matter of fact, 3.5 years out and I had a hurtful mouth and throat today with lunch.  I am doing well & so much better than early on after treatment, but sometimes, not often, get a sensitive mouth and I still have pink magic for days like this.  Just goes to show, we all heal so differently.

Best of Luck to you and God Bless
