Was anyone staged prior to surgery?  If so, were you re-staged afterwards?

Neither the surgeon nor gastrointerologist have staged my husband. They found the cancer via colonoscopy. The CT scan indicates that it is only in the colon. His lymph nodes aren't swolen. But of course, we don't know until the pathology reports come back after his November 9th sugery. Both doctors indicated that chemotherapy is a possibility after surgery. My assumption is that he will have chemotherapy no matter what. He's 42 and in great shape - no health problems beside this recent diagnosis. The surgeon indicated that the oncologist will probably push for a very aggressive treatment considering my husband's health and that he can handle it.

Feedback would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Until the surgery and checking lymph nodes the doctor will most likely not stage the cancer.

You will know more after surgery. He may not need chemo or radiation if the tumor hasn't grown outside colon. American Cancer Society has easiest info to understand. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/cri/content/cri_2_4_3x_how_is_

I hope that helps. Stay positive. It may be easier than you think

I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Colon Cancer afte surgery. they can't stage you before.  Try to go to a Cancer Center. The surgeon gave me the options. In my case it did not spread to the lympnodes. There is an 85% chance that the surgery will do the trick. Chemo only improved my odds by 5 more of a percentage. Remember chemo also kills stem cells that are the birth to all good cells. I could sense he was hesitant about the chemo. ( He is from Sloan Kettering Hospital) A second opinion said that chemo would not really make much of a difference . A third opinion said maybe you should have it any way- just in case. My surgeon was upset by this.
