My grandfather is on the 4th stage of kidney cancer and is on the first cycle of sutent... i wanted to ask u abt the side effects caused by SUTENT.. Just yesterday he had blood running through his nose n mouth. Please inform me, whether this is normal or what can be further done to stop it. Doctors say that an operation cannot be done. he is around 72 yrs old now. He had also taken a medicine for stomach upset yesterday. pls let me know.. Thank you!

Hi.

My mom also has stage 4 kidney cancer and just finished her 3rd cycle of sutent.  She is on the highest dose.  She has bleeding nose quite often.  She also takes medicine for upset stomach, she says this really helps fight the side effects.  most people have sore hands and/or feet.  Her mouth got very sore, had sores inside, she got a rinse from the doctor, this was also very helpful.  I wish your grandfather all the best, prayers out to you both.  Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. Dawn

Hi

I am 63 and have stage iv renal cell cancer.  I am in the 23rd cycle of 50mg Sutent.  Each cycle is a little different, but the main side effects for me are sores on the bottom of feet, high blood pressure, low thyroid, acid reflux, and itchy skin rash.  All are controllable with appropriate meds.  Pain meds allow me to walk a few miles each day and prilosec controls the acid reflux.  Your grandfather should monitor his blood pressure and thyroid ( low thyroid is often confused with fatigue).  I also get nose bleeds but have learned to easily stop them.  A nurse should be able to tell you where to press to stop the bleed.  Sutent works for many people as it has for me.  I have found that doctors are not as knowledgeable about side effects as the oncology nurses are.  Ask the nurses about the best way to controll the side effects.  If you want more info, send me a private reply.

Hi!

My father also takes Sutent, 50mg, for 16 months and about the food, I can tell u that taste will be lost, at least for the ultimate 7 days of those 28 days of medicine, but it will be back as soon as the 14 days off begin. Weekness is also among the side effects, as the matter of fact, my father had them all, but the nose bleed. Hemoglobin down, platelets down, orange colour of skin and hair and so on.

About the food, you should try somth light, low on salt, peper and food that irritates the stomach, and we were told no pickles, no sausage and no fermented cheese.

In the 14 days off, we are aloud o small glase of red wine.

Wish u all the best and stay positive!

God bless us all!
