Hi All,

My father was recently diagnosed with stage 3B kidney cancer. he is going to have his left kidney removed by surgery. unfortunately the cancer has spread to two of his ribs. fortunately though it hasn't spread to lungs or other organs till now. how good are the chances of his survival? :( what will be the treatment after the surgery? some doctors say very few years and some say good chances or recovery. I am confused. pls let me know. thanks in advance. Pray for him.

i will be praying for him. Is he getting any chemo or radiation?

if you are not satisfied with your dr get second option. they can do miracles with cancer today. my borther is going thru bladder cancer and we are not sure what they will do yet till we get the results from md anderson cancer center. please pray for him also. Please keep postive attitude and pray. Get a prayer chain going with your church.

let me know his progress

The treatment has not yet started...is 3B stage as bad as stage 4 cancer? what are his options for treatment after kidney removal surgery? doctors say they will be starting targeted therapies once the surgery is done. they say the cancer has spread to two of his ribs.

Hello , I do not know where you are located , but I was diagnosed with renal cell in Dec 07 , had an injury to my left clavacle which did not heal correctly upon further tests a biopsy showed renal cell, further tests showed tumor in right kidney. At that time they diagnosed me with renal cell kidney cancer and said I had about six months. Instead I went to the mayo clinic in Florida  and had them review all my tests and scans. I came back and found a very good urologist that specialized in cancer and a radiology onocologist as well as an orthopedic specialist.

They immeadiately did radiation on the clavacle and then 2 months later removed the right kidney , sadly to say 2 more cancer cells were released before the kidney was removed and was not found until the next scans right after the removal  one formed close to my renal gland next to the left kidney  and the other along a spinal injury I had preveously,. A complete bone scan showed possible lesions in both femurs and left forearm  all of which were treated with radiation and after the kidney removal I was placed on nexavar , I could handle half of the normal dosage  without alot of discomfort, and was on that until 2 months ago when it basically stopped working as the tumor in the right femur was growing and deterioating the bone wall as a precaution they placed a titianium rod from my right knee to my hip and then did more radiation and now I am on Afinator ,  and scheduled for more scans in Dec . So my best advice is to be agressive in treatment , start radiation to the ribs if possible and also start on one of the renal cell drug treatments.  so know that each individual reacts differantly and that a positive attitude and  a good medical team is what will keep you going . So contaiment of the cancer is the goal until there is a cure. I still work each  day and continue to do the best I can so tell your Dad and yourself not toi give up.

My husband has renal cell carcinoma and had left kidney removed in Nov 2007.  Six months later had mets to both lungs.  Oncologist placed him on avastin and nexavar.  Presently he is in remission and we are so grateful to the Lord and love our oncologist and his team.  He was on high dosages at first and then less and less so some quality of life can return.  He is very tired all of the time and appettite is not good.  BUT, his attitude is that if the drugs are working he can stand the tiredness, etc.  I will add your father and you to my long list of prayer concerns.  Take care.
